[Updated] Week 4 Blog Forum - Shout-out to Shane and Kyle (and Amanda)

Topic 1:

National Press Photographers Association Code of Ethics

  1. Photojournalists should not pay sources or subjects, nor should they accept payment or compensation from those who may wish to influence coverage. The job of a photojournalist is to accurately and honestly depict events to the public, not to take financial advantage of the position they are in. Money is a dangerous force that can destroy a photojournalist's integrity.
  2. Ideally photojournalists should avoid political involvement, as well as any other employment or business involvement that would compromise the independence of their reporting. I think that people in a public position—or even a non-public salaried position—will do what they can to stay in that position, even at the expense of their journalistic independence. It's a conflict of interests.
  3. The CEO of a big company, for example, would be biased to promote the company's interests above the public interest.

Favorite Photos

-update-

Because Kyle also likes Shane's photo, I chose another of my favorite classmate photos to feature here.

I like this MUG shot by Amanda Blevins. I love the details in the highlights in her eyes. Clear focus and great expression make this a MUG to be proud of.

-end of update-

I like this photo of a very musical man by Shane Bagley. The lighting made for a clear and properly-exposed picture, and the subject is interesting and well-framed. Nicely done.

I love the depth of field in this picture by Kyle Braun-Shirley. The woman's face and the book she is holding are in clear focus, while the bookshelf fades into blurryness as the distance increases. Very nice composition and color in this picture, too.

  1. Well, I see that Kyle also shouted-out to Shane on his musical man photo. I'll pick another favorite, BRB.
