Week 2 Blog Forum

Topic 1:

This photo by Mark Ylen really caught my attention because it's something I've never seen before. The timing of the shot was perfect, and the stopped motion is very Matrix-esque.

Three questions for Mark when he visits LBCC:

  1. What kind of camera support (tripod, monopod) do you prefer to use when taking action shots like this one?
  2.  Do you shoot in RAW always, or JPEG, or both?
  3. Approximately how many shots do you take of any given event?

Topic 2:

  1. The Photographer of the Week I chose for class is Sebastião Salgado. Before becoming an award-winning photographer, he worked as an economist for the International Coffee Organization until 1973. Originally from Brazil, he has traveled around the world as both a photojournalist and a documentary photographer. (http://www.biography.com/people/sebastião-salgado-40046)
  2. Sebastião Salgado's work captures hardship and strife, as well as the effects of industrial development on the natural landscape, in black-and-white with high contrast.

Topic 3:

  1. Two ideas for my next photojournalism assignment related to LBCC, OSU, or student life: Getting to know the gamers in the LBCC cafeteria, taking pictures of their equipment and their gathering; and documenting the Learning Center, taking pictures of tutoring sessions, math help desk helpers, and students doing homework.
  2. I often eat in the cafeteria and I see the gamers playing, and I'd like to talk to them about their fantastic games. I also spend a lot of time in the Learning Center, which always has something photo-worthy happening.
