Week 3 Blog Forum

Topic 1:

Environmental Portrait Subject Ideas

  1. Dan Crall, owner and main driver for Corvallis Pedicab, would make an interesting portrait subject. I can imagine the scene: Dan sitting in the driver's seat, with a smile on his face, ready to give a ride. I'd make sure to include the pedicab in the frame, and maybe the other pedicab could be in the background. I plan to contact Mr. Crall by calling the number on his business card.
  2. Jeremy Smith, local Corvallis mathematical computer artist and farmers' market character, would also make a nice subject for my environmental portrait. Jeremy rides a unique bicycle, which could be part of the shot at one of the last outdoor Saturday markets of the season. Props could include his distinctive helmet or maybe some of his artwork, as he tends to bring his latest projects to the market. I plan to see him at the market tomorrow, but if I don't see him there, I'll ask my wife, because she has a lot of contacts in the Corvallis art scene.

Self-Critique

  1. My best photo for #JN134 so far is this one of Omar Aljafi in the Designated Smoking Area at LBCC.
  2. My worst photo is this boring one below of an unnamed student doing something entirely un-newsworthy.

  • A skill that I need to improve is being more diligent with getting people's names when they are subjects in my photos. I have a little notebook and I'm practicing techniques to help me remember which names go with individual people in my shots.
